When I was 12 years old, I took my allowance and sent to Better Homes and Gardens to purchase house plans for a small cottage. I received the plan in the mail (they returned my dollar due to my age) and this began my pursuit to live in a cottage home.
Forty-five years later, I was surfing through houses on the internet and found my dream cottage. I had been living in Wisconsin for nearly 30 years and loved it, but I thought it was time to move back to Indiana to be closer to my family.
My dream house was located only 45 minutes from my family and it was the style of home that I had always loved.
It is a little brick Tudor (it even reads cottage Tudor on the deed).
I have been collecting furniture, vintage fabric, pictures, glassware, etc. for many years to put in a cottage home. I would cut pictures out of magazines of what I liked and wrote in my garden journal about the plants and flowers I would grow.
Buying this tudor style house was no easy task. I thought it had been sold because it went off the website.
The bank that held the deed was located somewhere in Texas and I was trying to get a loan before obtaining a job in Indiana.
I am beginning my third year now living in my “Cottage Dream Home” and I still can’t believe that it is mine. There is something different about living here. It just has the coziness to it that I love. I've decorated it with my favorite things that I have found at flea markets and thrift shops.
You can still surround yourself with beautiful treasures without spending a lot of money. All those flowers and shrubs I listed in my garden journal are now planted in my yard. Please follow the winding path to my front door and come in for a visit.
