Distressed Finish: is easy to accomplish. You will want to paint your piece of furniture first and then sand down the edges to give it the appearance of being worn over time. You can use a small hand sander, or pieces of sand paper and small emery boards work well for hard to reach places.
White Washed: finish is exactly as it sounds. You will be putting a wash on your wood. There are various ways to accomplish this technique.
You may want to simply water down your paint slightly, to give it your piece of furniture a wash. I would only recommend this is you are starting with unfinished wood.
There is a product called Gesso. It can be purchased at craft and hobby supply stores. It will give the appearance you see here on this garden ornament. It is very easy to apply.
